Installing Accelrys License Pack

Installing Accelrys License Pack

As part of Discovery Studio installation, the installer checks to see if a valid License Pack is already installed. If a valid License Pack is not found, a License Pack is installed.

License requirements and installation

Discovery Studio is licensed using FLEXlm licensing technology. Accelrys provides this technology in a software package called the Accelrys License Pack. This software package includes all of the files needed to support the licensing system.

During the installation process of Discovery Studio on Linux systems, you are prompted to use a central Accelrys License Pack, which is located on your network. On Windows systems, any previously installed Accelrys License Pack is used as the Accelrys License Pack location for Discovery Studio. The Accelrys License Pack, if found, is updated and any previous licensing configurations are preserved. Otherwise, the License Pack is installed and configured as a new installation of License Pack.

You are prompted during the installation process to supply a temporary license password. This password is shipped with your product. This enables Discovery Studio for 30 days, during which time you can evaluate the software or obtain your permanent license. Installation instructions for configuring this license are sent with the license file and can also be found online using the License Administrator.

To launch the License Administrator

Windows:

Go to the Start menu and choose Discovery Studio 1.6 | License Administrator.

Linux:

Issue this command, where <DS installation root> is the fully qualified path name of the installation directory for the Discovery Studio installation:

<DS installation root>/bin/license_admin

Configuring Discovery Studio to use the Accelrys License Pack

To ensure proper license functionality between Linux Accelrys software and the UNIX or Linux Accelrys License Pack, the License Pack installation path and the License Pack path used to configure the Accelrys software must be the same. Any Accelrys software shipped with an Accelrys License Pack is configured to use the License Pack you designate during installation.

If you decide to move the License Pack, to account for NFS mounted directories or for any other reason, you must reconfigure each software installation with the new location of the License Pack.

To reconfigure your Discovery Studio installation

Run this command, where <DS installation root> is the fully qualified path name of the installation directory for the Discovery Studio installation:

<DS installation root>/bin/config_lp_location <new License Pack path>

Removing License Pack separately from Discovery Studio

License Pack can be uninstalled separately from a Discovery Studio uninstall. For Windows, the uninstall program is invoked through the Add/Remove Program panel. For Linux, uninstall is invoked through the Uninstaller folder under the LicensePack folder. For more information, refer to the License pack documentation in the License Administrator.
