Installing Discovery Studio

Installing Discovery Studio

These installation instructions describe the system requirements and the procedure to install Discovery Studio 1.6. You can also find instructions for troubleshooting an installation or uninstalling the application.

Discovery Studio can be installed in the following ways:

State migration

When a new version of Discovery Studio is run for the first time, you can choose to import your preferences from a previous Discovery Studio installation. A dialog appears asking: "Do you want to import the application settings from Accelrys Discovery Studio 1.5?"

Note. The application will import the settings from the newest version of Discovery Studio that you have installed. If you would like to choose a different version, click the Browse button and navigate to the corresponding state file.

DS ProjectKM migration

If you own DS Modeling 1.1, DS Modeling 1.2, or MedChem Explorer 2.2, you may wish to use the DS ProjectKM Migration tool to extract your data from the DS ProjectKM as regular files that can be used in Discovery Studio and other applications.

Installing to a system without a DVD drive

If your target system for the Discovery Studio installation does not have a DVD drive, you can use this procedure on another system with a DVD drive to create an installable image.

  1. Insert the Discovery Studio installation media into the DVD drive. If AutoPlay is enabled then the Discovery Studio installation program starts automatically; cancel out of the installation.
  2. Create a zip file on the system's local hard drive by adding all the files on the DVD drive to the zip file.
  3. Transfer the zip file to your system (e.g., using FTP).
  4. Unzip the contents of the zip file to your desired location.
  5. Change the file permissions (Linux systems only).

    > chmod -R 775 < unzipped location >

  6. Run the Discovery Studio Linux installer or the Discovery Studio Windows installer.
